Nairobi to Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and every county

Long Distance Movers in Kenya: Nairobi to Any Town

KejaPal are long distance movers in Kenya who carry homes and offices from Nairobi to every county, and from any town back to Nairobi. We pack for the road, drive with a trained crew and deliver on the agreed day.

  • Packing made for long roads and rough patches
  • Driver plus crew, not a lorry alone
  • Full loads, part loads and shared trips

A move across the country is not just a longer city move. The load sits in a truck for eight, twelve or more hours. It climbs the escarpment, crosses speed bumps and rides rough patches near small towns. So a box that survives a trip from Kilimani to Lavington can break on the way to Kisumu.

We pack, load and drive with that in mind. This page explains how a long distance move works, what it costs and how to plan the days on both ends.

Transport

How long distance moving in Kenya works with us

Every trip follows the same basic plan. However, the timing changes with the distance and the size of the load.

  1. Survey and quote. First, we check the load in person or on a video call. You then receive a written quote covering crew, truck, fuel, tolls, packing and set-up.
  2. Packing day. Next, the crew packs everything for the road. Fragile items get double wrapping, and furniture gets blankets plus stretch film.
  3. Loading. Heavy items go low and tight against the front wall. After that, straps and load bars hold each section in place.
  4. The drive. Our driver takes the agreed route, with rest stops and no detours. The crew lead sends you updates along the way.
  5. Delivery. At the new home, the crew unloads, rebuilds furniture and places boxes in the right rooms.

For most towns within 400 km of Nairobi, we load in the morning and deliver the same evening or the next morning. Longer trips, such as Nairobi to Mombasa or Nairobi to Kakamega, usually take two days from start to finish.

Routes our long distance movers in Kenya drive often

We drive to every county, but some routes come up every week. Here are the most common ones, with typical road times for a loaded truck.

RouteDistance (approx.)Driving timeUsual plan
Nairobi to Nakuru160 km3 to 4 hoursSame-day delivery
Nairobi to Nyeri150 km3 to 4 hoursSame-day delivery
Nairobi to Eldoret310 km6 to 7 hoursSame day or next morning
Nairobi to Kisumu350 km7 to 8 hoursNext-morning delivery
Nairobi to Mombasa480 km9 to 11 hoursNext-morning delivery

Road works, weather and traffic near towns can change these times. You can check major road works on the Kenya National Highways Authority website before your move. Also, see our town guides for Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and Nakuru.

Common problems

Full loads, part loads and shared trips

Not every long move needs a whole truck. So, as long distance movers in Kenya, we offer three options.

  • Full load. The truck carries only your things and drives straight to you. This is the fastest and most private option, and the best choice for full homes.
  • Part load. Your items share a truck with another customer going the same way. It costs less, but the delivery date depends on the other move.
  • Shared trip. For a few items, such as a fridge, a bed and some boxes, we add them to a trip already heading to your town.

Students, single movers and people sending furniture to family often choose a part load or shared trip. On the other hand, families and offices nearly always take a full load.

Costs and pricing

How long distance moves are priced in Kenya

Price depends mainly on the size of the load, the distance and the packing work. Fuel, tolls, the crew's meals and their trip back to Nairobi are part of the cost too.

Part loads and shared trips usually reduce the cost. In contrast, very high floors, long carries and storage between dates add to it. We agree the final price with you after assessing the load. Our moving cost guide explains the main factors.

Packing

Packing for a long trip

Road vibration loosens tape, rubs wood and shifts boxes. That is why our long distance movers in Kenya pack differently for upcountry and coast trips.

  • Plates stand on their edge, each one wrapped, with crushed paper above and below.
  • Glass tops, mirrors and pictures travel in cardboard frames or wooden crates.
  • Electronics go in their original boxes when possible, or in padded boxes marked "this way up".
  • Mattresses get plastic covers to keep out dust from murram roads.
  • Wooden furniture gets blankets first, then stretch film, so the film never touches polished surfaces.

If you prefer to pack yourself, we can still help. For example, we can pack only the kitchen and the fragile items, or supply proper boxes and packing materials for the rest.

Long-Distance Moves

Items we do not carry on long trips

Some things are unsafe or illegal to carry in a closed truck for many hours. Like other careful long distance movers in Kenya, we leave these out of the load:

  • Petrol, paraffin, paint thinners and other flammable liquids.
  • Full gas cylinders, unless they are closed, checked and carried upright in an open section.
  • Cash, jewellery, title deeds and passports, which should travel with you.
  • Perishable food, which spoils quickly in a warm truck.
  • Live animals, which need their own transport.

We tell you about these items during the survey, so there are no surprises on moving day. Long distance moving in Kenya is also safer when you share a list of any high-value items before we load.

Transport

Moving into Nairobi from upcountry

We also move people the other way. A new job, a transfer or university often brings families from Kisumu, Kakamega, Meru or the coast into the city. In that case, we send a crew and truck to your town, load there and deliver to your new Nairobi home.

Many new Nairobi apartments have strict moving hours. So we plan the drive to arrive when the building allows moves, often in the morning. Read our apartment moving guide for tips on caretakers and lifts.

How it works

Planning both ends of the move

A long move needs a plan for two homes, not one. Here are the points we check with every customer:

  • Keys and access. Who opens the new house if you travel separately? Give us a name and number.
  • Storage gap. If the new place is not ready, we can hold your things in secure storage and deliver later.
  • Your own travel. Many families travel by road or train on the same day. Keep valuables, documents and medicine with you.
  • Pets and plants. Pets should travel with you. Plants can go in the truck, but long, hot trips stress them.
  • Vehicle. If you are not driving your car, our car transport service can carry it on a flatbed.

Why choose us as your long distance movers

Long moves go wrong when nobody owns the whole trip. One company packs, another drives and a third unloads, so problems fall between them. With us, one crew lead runs the job from the first box in Nairobi to the last bed rebuilt upcountry. As a result, you always know who to call and where your things are.

Ready to plan your trip? Send us both addresses and your dates, and our long distance movers in Kenya will confirm the plan and price in writing.

How pricing works for long distance movers in Kenya

We do not publish fixed prices for long distance movers in Kenya, because every job is different. Instead, we assess what you are moving, access at both ends and your date, then send a written quote. After that, we discuss it with you and agree the final price before the day. As a result, the price you agree for long distance movers in Kenya is based on your real move, and it only changes if the job changes. In addition, you can ask us to adjust the scope at any point before the day.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to move from Nairobi to Mombasa?

It depends on the size of the move, the distance, access such as stairs and lifts, and any packing or special items. We assess the job by survey or video call, then agree the final price with you in a written quote.

How many days does a long distance move take?

Most moves to towns within 400 km of Nairobi take one day. Longer routes such as Nairobi to Mombasa usually take two days: packing and loading on day one, delivery on day two.

Can I send only a few items upcountry?

Yes. Our shared trips carry a few items, such as a fridge, a bed and some boxes, on a truck already heading to your town. It is cheaper than booking a full truck.

Does someone travel with my things?

Yes. A driver and at least one crew member travel with every full load. The crew lead keeps you updated during the trip.

Do you move from other towns into Nairobi?

Yes. We send a crew to your town, load your home there and deliver to your new Nairobi address on the agreed day.
